The Purposeful Chair

Well I have found purpose for my Grandmother's chair, which is what I was hoping for in the first place. I just need to find some great matching fabric and make a chair pad for it. I'm going to add a saying on the front from Stampin Up. So now I just need to add the poly, chair pad a few touches and the saying from Stampin Up and I'm done!! I will post one last picture when it's all put together. I'm using it for my craft room, too bad my craft room isn't as nice as the chair, haha but that's ok, maybe when Derek and I stop moving I can paint my craft room to match the chair.
Here is the front, I added the stripes yesterday ......

The Chair - More Stencil

Well, I am slowly getting this chair stenciled. I can't sit down there for long and paint because my back starts to hurt but I'm slowly getting this done. I really love the way it's coming out. I need to touch up the front circles but so far it's going great!! I've finished the back and only have to finish the circles on each side. I'm not sure what I'm going to do after that but I will keep you posted. :-)

Chair Continued.....

I have started stencil on the chair and am having a little trouble but I think it's coming out ok anyway. It's been quite time consuming, the flower on the back of the seat ran really badly when I first painted it on but I fixed it up. The grey on the side (the circles) is the color of the stencil I took the 2nd picture while the stencil was still on the chair, I need to add one more coat of paint and then I'll take the stencil off and add more pics.

The Chair

I got this chair from my Dad after my grandmother passed away. It was one of the things I got when my Dad gave away her things to the family members. I have had this chair for about 2 years or more now and it's been around the house and on the porch here and there and really hasn't had any purpose in our house nor have I found a place for it. I was thinking about it the other week and was really wanting to do something special with it but couldn't figure out what. That's when it hit me!! I want this chair to be a part of my craft room. I spend so much time in there and I really wanted to make it into something fun and whimsical for me to sit in while I do my crafting or sewing. It's also a great way to honor my grandmother and remember her.

So I'm sharing this process with my blog friends!! So far I have sanded it down, primered and have started the painting process. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out but I'm just kind of thinking it up as I go. I really love the colors red/black and white together so I figured that those would be the base of my colors. I also want to add stenciling and after it's all done I will put a coat of Polyurethane for shine. I'm going to sew a chair pad for it too but haven't found a fabric that I love yet.. I'm still looking.. It doesn't look like much yet but you will get updates as I go. Here are pictures of the process thus far.....
This is what the chair looked like before

The Sanding Process was slow going, took about a day to finish it all.

After I put the Primer on it looked like this
I used the grey primer because I was going to use such dark colors

This was the first day of painting. The Red ended up taking 3 coats but the black I only had to paint twice.

This is what the chair looks like after the paint has dried. I still need to paint the foot spindles and I'm not sure that I like the white under the seat. I might re-paint that part with black but otherwise I think it looks good so far. I'm going to start stenciling after the paint dries. More to come........................

Pen and Ink ATCs

So.. I'm doing another ATC swap on my yahoo group and this one I'm hosting and it's going to be a watercolor and pen and ink swap. The idea is for you to do some watercolor and some pen and ink drawing on your ATCs. It can be whatever you want. I'm posting some ideas for people on my group to see, so they can get an idea of what to do.

These are just the ones I have done so far but you can do anything you like.

Stocking!!!

My friend and Stampin Up consultant let me borrow this pattern so that I could make some stockings for me and my family for Christmas. Well, I didn't get them done prior to Christmas BUT here is a look at the first one that I finished. It's my daughters and I thought it was fun for her. I added a little pocket to the front. (Sue, I promise to get this pattern back to you asap!!) haha!!

ATCs For Trade

Well, I've been asking people on my Yahoo groups to do one on one trade with me so I really needed to post these a few days ago. Sorry for the delay ladies!!! Here are the ATCs I have made and that are for trade, I just scanned them in their protective sleeves.
