Funky Halloween Owl Tag

Hello there bloggies! I hope that your having a super fantastic fall day. For my project today, I really wanted to try a technique that I saw over at Frilly and Funky this was a Saturday step by step by Linda. She saw the technique over on the fabulous Wendy Vecchi's Blog... at any rate, I wanted to try this one because it's looks so fun and cool. I wanted to make a fun Halloween tag with my new movers and shaper Owl.

I am entering my tag into a few challenges:
1. Tag A Long - their challenge this week is Something Wicked This Way Comes... How cool!!
2. Our Creative Corner - Halloween/Tag/Surface Texture haha
3. 2 Creative Chicks - Their challenge this week is also Halloween, so awesome!!
Instead of using Wendy's clear embossing paste (I didn't have any on hand) I used Dreamweaver clear embossing paste instead.

I put some on my tag and let it dry for an hour, once it was pretty set I inked up my stamp and stamped into it with archival black ink and also versa mark (so the stamp won't stick in the paste.) Linda actually talked about using the versa mark so that it won't stick, it's a great idea.
I set it aside once again to dry some more and harden.
While the tag was drying I cut out a Ornate Frame (by Tim Holtz) and used several different embossing powders to give it a grungy/patina look.

I then took some distress dry glitter and used a technique by Tim Holtz in order to make a custom color. I mixed Alcohol inks in several colors until I got the color I wanted for my owl.
The Owl was cut out using Tim's movers and shapers mini owl.

Once the glitter was dry I covered my owl with glossy accents and then added the glitter.

Once my background was nice and dry, I ruffed up the edges and also added some Tattered Angels glamour paint with my finger.

I went over some of the background with stencil and archival inks.

I then added a black ornate frame to my background and added my embossed patina/grunge one over the back one using dimensionals.

For the owls eyes, I cut out some card stock and used glossy accents over it and then added some glitter on top of that. I wanted the eyes to be shiny.

I also added some leaves and a button to the bottom of my tag.

Check out the cool texture on this tag, I'm definitely adding this technique to my list of favorites.

I'm really loving the finished look of the tag and I'm so grateful for the tutorials that Linda and her designers share. I learn so much from them. Be sure to check them out over at the blog:

Thanks for stopping by.
