Another 12 Tags of 2014 - August

So, I usually do two postcards for the 12 Tags of 2014 and this month I only did one. I decided that I wasn't satisfied with one so I made another one. LOL...

I always like to have one for a friend and one for me, so I just had to make another. I didn't want to two to be the same so I made a different one this time.

Like the last postcard, I started by using Tim's tissue paper

I also used Tim's Tissue Tape, stamps and various stencils

I also used my gelli roll pen to write over the metal in my word band, I wasn't sure if it was going to work at all but it worked pretty good

I used Tim's Word Band, ideology trinkets, stencils, remnant rubs, stamps, distress inks and much more on this postcard, how fun to put so many wonderful products together in a mixed media piece!!!

I think I'm in love with this one, I just love the way the color came out.

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 - August

For the new Tim Holtz Tag for August Tim wanted us to explore our "muse" and create this month's tag using our own creative style and "muse". 

I love this and I really love the idea of just creating using our own unique creative styles. 

Of course if your following along with my blog, you know that I have decided to make postcards instead of tags this year. I really like the idea of the postcards because my 7Gypsies craft tray is looking so full and I just love it AND I send one every month to a crafty friend of mine, what better way to get some "happy mail" than to receive a postcard

For starters I gathered some of my favorite Tim Holtz products to use

Next, using multi matte medium I adhered my tissue paper and tape onto my background

I also used Tim's stamps and archival ink to stamp my images

For my finished postcard, I used Tim's Idea-ology trinkets, tissue tape, tissue paper, dies, grungeboard, embossing distress powder, stamps and so much more.

This was such a fun postcard to create, with all the wonderful layers and depth, what a thrill!! I hope you will try your hands at making the 12 Tags of 2014 for August because it's a blast!!

Artist Trading Block - TIME

I'm so excited to share with you today an Artist Trading Block that I have created. As some of you may know my favorite style of media is Steampunk and I did an ATB awhile back with steampunk in mind
(Warning, this post is photo heavy)

Well, I wanted to do another steampunk-ish/Time block but this time I really wanted it to be clear or see through

I decided to use some of the thick clear packaging that I have saved from misc things I've bought
(yes, I save it all LOL)

I cut my ATB out of this packaging material and then embossed it with an embossing folder

In order to emboss each section of the ATB I had to put the embossing folder into the machine sideways and this way I can emboss each section without overlapping

For the middle section of the ATB I had to use a shim so that the middle would emboss but the other two sides would not
This was the result, each section of my ATB is embossed and there is no overlapping or wonky clocks

Next I simply colored my embossed sections with alcohol inks

For the Time plate to open I simply used paper on the back and created a piece that would swing open
(I created this plate with a Ten Second Studio texture plate, metal tape and black paint)

This piece of paper was adhered to the back of my plate and then onto my ATB front (I used red line tape for this)

I then used some grungeboard letters and painted those black with acrylic paint to create my "Time" word for the top of my ATB. I also used redline tape on the back to adhere those

For my flowers, I used Wendy Vecchi's set of clearly for art flowers and stamped this with various Tim Holtz stamps using archival ink

Once dry, I used various colors of alcohol ink to color them and heated them up to shape them

I figured that these photos would eventually be changed to a photo of Derek and I and our two girls, I just didn't have time to find the perfect photos and print them in the sepia tone

I'm going to have to get one of those light stand for my ATB, the kind that turns.

Sometimes I feel .....

Bulletproof!!!

I love that song by Katy Perry and I've had it in my head all day so I decided to make something with that in mind. 

Not to mention I've been wanting to make something for my daughter. She always brings me these cool items that she finds on her job to use in my crafts. Well, last week she brought me this really cool small bullet. As soon as I saw it I knew I would make something for her with it. 

I am going to enter this project into the following challenges:

1. Stampotique Design Challenge  - Their challenge this week is to use Handles, hinges, buckles, fasteners or pulls. I really love this challenge because I love all the items listed! So fun!!

2. Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Their challenge this week is to use a clear or rubber stamp - no digital stamps. This one is right up my alley! I use rubber stamps on almost every project.

So I looked through my stash of alterable items and found this super small but oh-so-cute altoid mini tin. Since I had some of Tim Holtz mini hinges and the stamp I wanted to use was small I knew it was a match made in alter heaven. haha!! 

For starters I used my sand tool and sanded the entire altoid box down. Then I applied a layer of Golden Gesso to give the entire thing some tooth. I set that aside to dry.

I then took a gelli print that I had (love those gelli print backgrounds!!) 

and I used a Stampotique stamp called Seaweed by 

Jo Capper-Sandon and also a Tim Holtz clock and stamped onto my background here and there.

I then cut this up for the front and inside of my tin.

Once my tin was more or less dry, I painted most of it black. I just left the places that I was going to cover white.

Again, set aside to dry.

I stamped my bear image onto water color paper and colored him with Copic markers. (forgot to take a photo, so sorry)

I used Copics because I wanted it to be permanent. 

Once my tin was dry again I lined the entire inside with tissue tape. I used Claudine Hellmuth's multi-medium glossy to adhere it so it would stay. 

I also cut a small piece of my gelli plate print and added that to the inside as well. I needed to break up the black on the side where the bear would end up.

I then took my hinge and a poker tool to make holes for the brads. I had to line them up perfect so that the box would open properly. Since the box already had it's own hinges, I just took them off it's own hinge and affixed mine. 

Once that was done I painted the entire outside with the matte-medium again so that the paint wouldn't continue to chip. (this tends to happen with painted tin)

I then took some Adirondack acrylic paint dabber in gold and painted a star that I'm going to use inside.

I also cut up some small pieces of foam and colored them with marker. I want to have my bear and a few other items be dimensional on the inside and I just used foam for this.

I did make a little sign for the inside of the tin using a clip form a coffee bag I had and some of the gelli print again. I didn't take a photo, sorry again.

I Think it came out really cute, I'm so glad I used this little tin for this project, it was perfect.  I hope my daughter likes it.
