Crazy Cat and Color Burst Birthday Card

Yesterday was the 30th of March and it marked my wonderful daughter's 18th Birthday. WOW! I'm amazed that she is already 18 and will be leaving for college this fall. 

I had recently purchased the Ken Oliver Color Bursts and really wanted to break them out and use them on this card.

I used Ranger's watercolor paper for this background and simply spritzed the paper with water and then dropped each of the colors onto the wet paper. It spread out so wonderfully. 

I did spritz the paper a little more with the water once the color was on, just to get it spread more and more

I just love how the colors spread and blend into one another 

I stamped my crazy cat, the bday hat and balloon and colored them with copic markers and applied

For my word, I used one of Tim Holtz word dies with black cardstock

The inside says "birthday"

The result of this looks so complicated, like it could have taken awhile to make but it was super easy to do

My Filofax Tabs

Hello and welcome to the blog. Today I'd like to talk about my newest obsession, my Filofax. I am loving this organizer and am having so much fun making tabs for it and figuring out how I want to organize it. 

The store where I work,  Simple Pleasures Rubber Stamps and Scrapbooking starting carrying these this month and as soon as I got one I was hooked. My boss Cathy will ship these (or any products) so if you want to buy one make sure to call the store and see what we have in stock. 719-528-1338

Here are some of the tabs I've made for my Filofax

This was the first tab that I made, I used Memorybox stencils and Archival ink. I also used butterfly wash tape around the edges, this one came out simple but I love it

I used a Memory Keeper Punch to make the tabs in the side, labeled "Notes" this is a perfect punch for making tabs, the punch even comes with clear plastic tab covers, its awesome! We also sell the tab punch, stencils and inks at the store

For my next insert I used my round gel plate and Dina Wakley paints to create this fun page. I used several different stencils for the numbers and texture in the background. (this is my budget tab)

For my next insert, I used a combo of acrylic paints and Dina Wakley paints. My stamped images are from Stampotique Originals and I used Copic markers to color them. This is my opening page for my filofax

As you can see I love color, this insert is no exception. I used Tim Holtz Crazy Bird stamp set along with the die set (makes it easier to cut out these cool birds) and colored my images with Copic markers. For my background I used Dina Wakley Paints again and I added some washi tape and doodling. The tab for this page says "Store Cards" I will keep all those darn store cards behind this tab.

Last but not least, I created this insert with Wendy Vecchi crackle texture paste in white and also her regular texture paste, I used the paste through a bunch of different stencils.

Next I added Tim Holtz distress inks in several colors

I added black cardstock letters cut out with Tim Holtz Word Play Sizzix Die

This tab is going to be my Budget Tab, I switched this one and the gelli plate one from above. That tab was changed to "lists"

So those are my tabs so far, I plan to hopefully make a few more but I think I'm well on my way to having my filofax organized the way I like it.

Altered Puzzle Week 10

Welcome back to the blog today,  we are onto week 10 of the Altered Puzzle Challenge

This week I'm going to combine the two pieces to make one large collaborative piece. 

For starters I took some versamark, clear embossing powder and a background stamp

Simply apply the versamark over the entire background stamp, stamp onto the puzzle piece, pour the clear embossing powder over the pieces and heat set.

For this step I kept the two pieces put together

Your pieces should look something like this now

You can see the shiny embossing on the background

Next I'm going to apply three different colors of inks with a distress tool

As you can tell I like the brights, you can use whatever colors you like

Next I stamped my image (from Stampotique by artist Jo Capper-Sandon)

and I also used a image that my friend Terri Richardson had drawn for me (the flower in her hair) 

colored them with copic markers and cut them out. 

This image is going to sit right in the middle of my pieces 

I then picked out a phrase from one of my Tim Holtz stamp sets and stamped it twice onto card stock

Stamped twice so I could cut out the words

I cut it out and edged with black marker

I then decided to add some small bee and dragonfly buttons but the buttons have a rounded back so I took my Tim Holtz Tonic scissors and cut the back off so they would be flat and easy to adhere to my pieces

After all was put together here is what my pieces look like now

I really love how these came out, one of my favorite pieces now.

Stampotique Challenge 197 - Tin is In

Welcome back to the blog everyone and thanks for stopping by.

Today is Wednesday which means it's time for another challenge over at: Stampotique Designers Challenge Blog

and our wonderful hostess this week is Janet Klein and her challenge to use is "Tin Is In"

This is what Janet says about this challenge:

"Tin can be an exciting and unexpected element in your stamping projects. So put on you tinking caps" and reach for some craft tin-an Altoid container or upcycle with a can or other tin object."

I began by finding a tin, I decided to use this tin that I got from Cracker Barrel years ago, I always save my tins

I started by covering the tin in gesso in order to prep it for paint

I used acrylic paint in a salmon type color for my tin

Next I stamped some of Stampotique's stamps all over a piece of tissue paper, I used a few different archival ink colors for this

Once everything was dry I applied the tissue to my tin with glue

In order for my piece to stand up I created a base using cardboard. I painted it first with the same salmon color

I then applied another darker color of paint

I then stamped onto the base

I used Carrot and colored her with Copic Markers,

she is going to pull my cart with the 3 In A Round boys

I added buttons for wheels and a pulley string

Here is my final piece

Altered Puzzle Week 4

Welcome back to the blog today, I'm actually posting the challenge this week on time haha!!

This week, since we aren't worried about the pieces being flat, I decided to do some embossing and add some embellishments.

I started out with my first piece, painting the background a light brick sort of color

I then used embossing ink and two kinds of powder, I just dabbed the pad directly onto my puzzle piece here and there and added the powder and heat set

Once I was finished I wanted more so I added more....

This was how it was when I finished

I wanted to add a bird of some sort so I used a Dyluisions set and stamped my bird onto some patterned paper

I used clear embossing ink for the bird and cut him out

I added some ink and stenciling to the background

(guess I should have done that before the embossing, o-well)

Next I wrote the word Imagine onto the same paper that I stamped the bird and tore it out and inked the edges with brown archival ink

I then punched a hole in each side of the word so that I could add brads

I adhered everything to my background and whalla!! I love the way this piece came out

For my next piece I used DecoArt media paint in a burgundy color

The color was a little bright for what I wanted so I added a bit of a darker color

After that has dried I used a stencil and black embossing paste to add some texture

I really love how that texture came out

I set that aside to dry

for the next step I glued some Tim Holtz paper onto cardboard

and used a butterfly mover and shaper die to cut out

I edged my butterfly with a black marker and I want my wings to stand up so I bent the butterfly right down the center a tad

Next, I grabbed some Tim Holtz ideology flowers and put them together with a brad

I'm going to use this in one corner of my piece

I stamped my sentiment onto that patterned paper and embossed and tore out

I also edged with brown Archival ink

I also wanted to use some pearls on my piece but I didn't want white pearls and that is the only color that I have at the moment. This is a perfect trick - Use your copic markers to color the pearls whatever color you want!!! 

After my background was dry I added everything, I only applied glue to the middle of my butterfly here so that the wings can stand up

and here is my finished puzzle piece
