Two Normals - Journal Page

Hello all and TGIF!! It's Friday and it's not snowing yet, it's a good day!
At any rate, I wanted to show you a journal page that I recently created. Some of you may know that my New Years Resolution was to Journal more often and actually complete a journal (maybe) lol
So I decided to work in my journal the other day
Of course I had to use my favorite Stampotique Stamps too. haha!

I have this wonderful artsy friend named Terri Richardson and her and I text each other quite a bit. Not only is she a great artist she is so funny too. For this journal page I used a quote directly from her.. she said this to me during a text one night
"Just a couple of "Normals", In a World Full of Weird"

When I heard her say that I thought it was a perfect sentiment for a journal page with some Stampotique Stamps by Daniel Torrente
Here is the journal page I created.....

The page kind of just came together naturally and it was so much fun to create for no particular reason. Sometimes you just gotta "do"

Obviously I felt this page needed to have some bright bold colors, I used Dina Wakley paints for that background.

I used Stampotique Stamps:

All By Daniel Torrente and some by Daniel and Jill Penney
Thanks for coming by the blog, I hope you have gotten a nice giggle. Have a Cheery day!!

Stampotique Challenge - Painted Background

Welcome back to the blog on this lovely Wednesday
Today marks a new Challenge over at Stampotique Designer's Challenge Blog and this week our wonderful Corrie is our host.
She chose the theme "Painted Background" in any form.

This is what Corrie says:
My first love in crafting is paint. So today I would like you all to use paint in your background. Doesn't matter what paint or how you apply it. Just have fun ! Corrie x

My new years resolution was to do more art journaling and to actually finish an entire journal. So for this challenge I am doing a journal page

I painted the background of my page with Dina Wakley's wonderful and bright paints
I colored all my stamped images with copic markers
I used Stampotique Stamps:

Giant Mushroom and Jasmin By Artist Jo Capper-Sandon

Barcode Text - By Artist France Papillon

I love bright color in my journal (as you can see) and I just love how this page came out.
Thanks for coming by and I hope you will join us over at the Challenge Blog... one lucky winner will win a 30.00 gift certificate to the online store
CHEERS!!

Altered Playing Card Challenge - Week 20 and Give-a-way

Welcome back to the blog and the Altered Playing Card Challenge - There is a drawing this week so stay with me to see what you can win and to enter

I am so excited to see more people joining in on this challenge, I hope everyone is enjoying the challenge
We are on week 20 and card #38 and 39 of our 52 card deck
unbelievable how quickly these weeks are going by.

If you have missed any of the previous week's here are the links

and our Facebook page

and the Pinterest Board link

Since we have Valentine's Day coming up I figured I would dedicate this week to "Hearts/Love"

I am still playing with that box of DecoArt products that I received so I am using some of those for my backgrounds this week

I got these DecoArt Misters and I used those to create both of my background this week, they are simply paints in a spray bottle

For this yellow backed card I first sprayed the yellow over the entire background and then for the red portion, I spritzed the bottle lightly (without pushing the sprayer all the way down and pushing the sprayer slowly) to create splatters
You can create splatters by using a paintbrush also, just dip your paintbrush into your paint and tap your brush over your project to create splatters

Next I used some patterned papers that my friend, Tanager  sent to me,  she created these herself
For this first one, I used a stamp by Roc Nicholas called Flying Heart I heat embossed the heart and then cut it out

I then used the media paints to color in the little heart

I did have to cut off the wings and position them differently so they would fit on my card but it all worked out
I used this stamp by Janet Klein and archival ink to create a border

I cut out the word "forever" from a Sizzix Tim Holtz die

Once everything was done my card came out like this
(I colored in some of my ribbon border with white gel pen)

For the next card I used this background paper, also created by my friend Tanager

I used a black sharpie marker to draw my own hearts and then cut them out

I also used that plain black washi tape that I found at JoAnns in the clearance section

I glued my hearts on first
and then tore the washi tape and added it onto my card, I then wrote my words onto my washi tape with white gelli pen

I added little dots around the edges with my black Enamel Accents

Here is my finished 2nd card

And here are both cards together -

I hope you like this week's cards, they aren't your traditional "love/heart" cards but I kinda like that

Next week we will be using clear embossing paste, I think clear is tough to figure out and a lot of people ask me how to use it
Well tune in next week for a fun way to use your clear embossing pastes

We are having a drawing this week -

Stampotique Challenge - Punny or Funny

Happy Wednesday everyone! I'm thrilled to be back for another Stampotique Designer's Challenge
This week's challenge is hosted by the wonderful Kathi Rerek
Her challenge to us is "Punny and/or Funny"
Here is what Kathi says:

"e.e. cummings said, "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter." Puns and word play always make me smile. Really good puns make me laugh. Create a project that makes YOU smile, then share it with us! As always, have fun with this challenge!"

I'm not so good with Puns but I can do funny haha!
Over at the Stampotique Originals Facebook Group we do a monthly ATC swap and this months theme is Nursery Rhymes.
I decided to go funny with this
here is my ATC

I used Stampotique Stamp

Skull Moon - By Artist Arwen McCullen

I just drew the cow's tail myself and printed out the sentiment on the computer
Hope you like my ATC, I made two of these to be exchanged with two different people in the swap. I hope they get my sense of humor haha!
Have a great day!

The Altered Playing Card Challenge - Week 19

Welcome back to the Altered Playing Card Challenge, we are on week 19 already and we are well over half way through this challenge. What are we going to do when this is all over?

If you have missed any of the previous week's here are the links

I wanted to go with a Steampunk/Time theme this week. If you know me, you now I really love steampunk, although I love it, I don't do it enough. So this week is all about Steampunk!

For my first background, I used the playing card that I had prepped with the Dry Wall tape adhered (someone sent the tape to me but I hear you can find it in Home Depot and it's pretty cheap)
I am also using Tim's Holtz distress paints in colors Antiqued Bronze and Brushed Pewter

I put some paint onto my craft mat and spritzed with a bit of water, I then ran my card through the paint
You can't see the silver too well here, but the paint has a slight shimmer to it
I set that background aside to dry

I found this really cool, sticky backed,  glittery paper from JoAnns

It comes in these really long sheets for 1.29 a sheet (it was on sale), I bought a piece of the black and silver. I like the fact that it's paper so it won't be too heavy for my playing cards
I then used Tim Holtz's Gear die and cut out some gears with the paper

I used a leftover piece of the black shimmer sheet to adhere to my entire 2nd altered playing card
(this is a photo of the back of my card)
I added a bit of glue to the back of my paper sheet in order to make sure it adhered well to my card

I then cut around the excess, this is what my 2nd cards' background looks like

While my first card was still drying I worked on the 2nd one

Since my background was black I used a stencil, versa mark and embossing glitter powder to create some texture and interest to the background

One thing to note here, if you use the embossing glitter over your glitter paper, be very careful when your heat setting your powder. The glitter paper tends to bubble if it gets too hot. I ended up burning my black glitter paper just a bit
you can see it in the photo below, I liked that the powder was glittery too

I also wanted to emboss one of my gears for this background, I used two different colors of embossing powders so that my gear would be more grungy looking

I used one large silver gear and the embossed gear for my background here, trimming off the excess

I stamped my sentiment onto white paper and trimmed
Here is how my 2nd Altered Playing Card came out
Now that I see it, If I had it to do over again I might have used a lighter color embossing powder for my stenciled background. O-well!

Back to the first playing card......
Now that the background is dry I can add on top of it

While at JoAnns I found this washi tape in the clearance section, it was all black (which I loved) I'm going to use it to create my own washi tape

I tore a piece of the washi tape and stuck it to my craft mat. I also grabbed a gear stamp (Tim Holtz) and some of the silver metallic distress paint

Just dab your paint lightly onto your stamp and stamp it onto your washi tape

I just love how the washi tape came out

Once your done stamping, make sure to clean your stamp really well or your paint will ruin it
After the washi tape dried I tore a few pieces to add to my background

I then added some gears that I had previously cut out of the glitter paper

I used the same stencil as I did on card #2 for this card and block off the portion that I didn't want

I used Archival ink to ink my stencil

I decided I wanted another gear so I added another one

I stamped my sentiment onto white paper, cut it out and adhered it

Lastly I used this copper pen around my edges

Here is my finished card

and here are my two cards together

I hope you have fun this week with this theme. I had a great time making these two.
Cheers!!
