Altered Playing Card Challenge - Week 20 and Give-a-way

Welcome back to the blog and the Altered Playing Card Challenge - There is a drawing this week so stay with me to see what you can win and to enter

I am so excited to see more people joining in on this challenge, I hope everyone is enjoying the challenge
We are on week 20 and card #38 and 39 of our 52 card deck
unbelievable how quickly these weeks are going by.

If you have missed any of the previous week's here are the links

and our Facebook page

and the Pinterest Board link

Since we have Valentine's Day coming up I figured I would dedicate this week to "Hearts/Love"

I am still playing with that box of DecoArt products that I received so I am using some of those for my backgrounds this week

I got these DecoArt Misters and I used those to create both of my background this week, they are simply paints in a spray bottle

For this yellow backed card I first sprayed the yellow over the entire background and then for the red portion, I spritzed the bottle lightly (without pushing the sprayer all the way down and pushing the sprayer slowly) to create splatters
You can create splatters by using a paintbrush also, just dip your paintbrush into your paint and tap your brush over your project to create splatters

Next I used some patterned papers that my friend, Tanager  sent to me,  she created these herself
For this first one, I used a stamp by Roc Nicholas called Flying Heart I heat embossed the heart and then cut it out

I then used the media paints to color in the little heart

I did have to cut off the wings and position them differently so they would fit on my card but it all worked out
I used this stamp by Janet Klein and archival ink to create a border

I cut out the word "forever" from a Sizzix Tim Holtz die

Once everything was done my card came out like this
(I colored in some of my ribbon border with white gel pen)

For the next card I used this background paper, also created by my friend Tanager

I used a black sharpie marker to draw my own hearts and then cut them out

I also used that plain black washi tape that I found at JoAnns in the clearance section

I glued my hearts on first
and then tore the washi tape and added it onto my card, I then wrote my words onto my washi tape with white gelli pen

I added little dots around the edges with my black Enamel Accents

Here is my finished 2nd card

And here are both cards together -

I hope you like this week's cards, they aren't your traditional "love/heart" cards but I kinda like that

Next week we will be using clear embossing paste, I think clear is tough to figure out and a lot of people ask me how to use it
Well tune in next week for a fun way to use your clear embossing pastes

  1. Hi Claudine, these are gorgeous. Love the yellow red one especially. I am still a bit behind but am working on two pairs at the moment so look forward to a flurry of activity LOL. These two may have to jump the queue because although I am not really a heart person these are really striking and fun. Hugz

  2. I have base coated 37 cards to play along. I ran out of paint. 14 more to go. I'm going to try a valentine theme. I love this idea! I am going to hang them all up as a banner when I finished.

  3. Claudine, it is always fun each Monday morning to see what you have come up with! From the looks of your blog you have so many other things you are doing too. Thanks for all the time you put into this project for us all.

  4. I love that these are not traditional. You've got me thinking about how mine are going to look.....Helene

  8. Thanks for all the inspiration this week. I love the colors you used but must confess I added some pink on my one card. Thanks for hosting these challenges. Many things are getting used like my white gel pen. Also if I don't have something you used it encourages me to improvise.

Fingers and toes are crossed that I win the giveaway. Especially since I keep passing up the Tim Holtz rubs for other things. Thanks for the chance. Looking forward to Monday and the next challenge. :-)

  9. Love this weeks cards. Hearts are always a favorite.

  10. This is such a fun challenge with all the different ways to alter the cards each week and it's good to sometimes work outside my comfort zone. Looking forward to seeing lots of hearts this week!

  14. I really LOVE what you did with that black washi tape. I would love to find some. It looks like you could use it for so many things. I also liked your hearts and the way you made them. Something to aspire to, that's for sure.

    Here is mine this week:

  15. Here we go, here we go, here we go. Gosh, this is such fun Claudine. HUGZ.
